“I am grateful as a new singer/songwriter in the Northern Michigan area for the opportunity Rebecca and Real People Media gave me through this experience. I was able to play in a small and comfortable setting in front of friends and family. Even through breaking a string it was a good experience that gave me insight into something that could happen at anytime. The photos Rebecca took of the performance were great and I look forward to using them alongside the recorded audio in my expanding portfolio.” Jenny Thomas, Traverse City “The Voice Box Sessions is a unique venue where musicians are given the opportunity to share their art in an intimate setting for a listening audience. A high quality sound system and engineer are provided and the concert is professionally videotaped for their YouTube channel. Also the performers are paid a fair wage and can sell their CD’s etc. As a singer-songwriter, I couldn’t ask for more. I have had the privilege of performing twice for Voice Box Sessions… and … it felt magical. I think the audience felt it too.” Jetty Rae, Ann Arbor/Charlevoix “As an artist who has performed everywhere from dirty bars to national festivals, performing at Real People Media's Voice Box Sessions is truly an artist's delight. Small, artistic intimate venue, full of people who are hanging on your every word. I've been doing music long enough to know that not all gigs are created equal, and the events that Rebeca hosts are top notch; they're well promoted, well attended and highly anticipated by both attendees and artists. I can't think of a better way to serve the Northern Michigan community through the arts than by continuing to put on events like this one” Charlie Millard, Alanson “Thanks again to Rebecca Glotfelty, everyone at Real People Media, and Charlevoix Circle of The Arts. Had a great time, lots of fun.” Scott McCarthy, East Jordan, MI Rebecca, I wanted to take a moment and express how much I have enjoyed and learned from the Voice Box Sessions both as a listener and participant. As a listener I’ve really appreciated the variety of the music, the talent you’ve been able to bring and the approachability and share-ability (if that’s a word) of the artists. I believe that music is the most joyous of the arts because it brings forth the soul with so many pleasing elements and immediately lifts the listener in an active and visceral way. Even better, the room for the Voice Box Sessions provides an environment where both the artist and listeners become active participants. Its stage setting makes it easy for the two way dialogue that regularly takes place. This setting also lets the artist take risks with their music knowing that the audience values observing the creative process. Rather than being slick and packaged, much of the shows are very organic and granular. The open Mics have been of great personal value to me. One of my goals is to perfect my music and conversation on stage to the point that it is worth taking to the public. Not only has the Voice Box Sessions open mike provided me this opportunity, more importantly I’m being introduced to artists in the northern Michigan area who can help me. It’s very cool to get immediate feedback from folks who are out in the public performing. As you know from being a performing artist, it is very scary putting yourself out there. I cannot imagine a better environment for working on our craft then the setting of these sessions. Thank you for the opportunity to share the joy of music as well work an performing.
