He was presented with the 2009 Michigan Filmmaker of the Year Award by Michael Moore at the Traverse City Film Festival.
Come enjoy a fascinating evening as Rich shares stories from his 40 plus year filmmaking career. He'll speak on what motivates him to undertake challenging projects like the making of "The Wreck and Rescue of the Schooner JH Hartzell" which he shot during real winter storms on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The privately funded film took 12 months to complete and represents a facet of Michigan history that's often forgotten. The undertaking of this film is a story in itself. This event is appropriate for all ages and a must attend for anyone interested in filmmaking, cinematography, and maritime and Michigan history.
