Mark your calendars! Tuesday, March 25th, 2008 will be the premiere of the RPM production, Journey to Joy at the newly renovated State Theater in downtown Traverse City, MI. Journey to Joy takes viewers "behind the scenes" as the four members of Song of the Lakes, prepare for their 25th anniversary concert. The 30-minute documentary by Rebecca Glotfelty includes interviews with Mike, Ingemar, Rick and Lisa as they reflect on the band's metamorphosis from a sea-shanty quartet to a multifaceted group performing original folk, jazz, acoustic rock, Celtic and Benzonian ballads. The program includes footage from the band's early years and highlights from their 2003 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
Through these interviews, clips and current video footage, the viewer discovers the secret to the bands longevity, almost unheard of in the music world. Whether you're a fan of Song of the Lakes, in a band yourself, or dreaming of performing on stage, you'll enjoy this documentary which celebrates the creative process. After the documentary, highlights from the 2007 concert at Interlochen's Corsen Auditorium will be shown. This is a fundraiser for the State Theater. Hey- you can't beat that.
