Here's an example.
After the only cafe in Ellsworth, Michigan went out of business, this tiny village lost a vital community center. To rectify this situation, local churches rallied together, formed a non profit and purchased the building to create the "Front Porch" cafe. The restaurant opened in September 2008 and has been a bustle of activity ever since. There are 3 paid employees (cooks) but the rest of the work - waiting tables, cleaning, maintenance, etc. is done by volunteers. What a great story. One which could be replicated in other communities suffering the same fate. Real People Media hopes to have the mini-documentary on the "Front Porch" on this site soon.
